Economic Development Breakfast
Wednesday, October 28, 2009;  7:30 AM – 9:30 AM
University Research Park

(Please pass this on to interested colleagues and customers.)

The “New Normal.”

What is the “New Normal?”  After 10 years of economic bubbles and bursts (Dot.com, housing, debt) economists are predicting a return to more “normal” growth expectations.  The “normal” of the past will not be “normal” of tomorrow.  Global economic changes, environmental imperatives and technology advances will move new industries to the forefront and marginalize others.

Please join us for two great presenters who will help us understand the “New Normal” economy and how Wisconsin government will address this new economic development environment.

Presenters

David Ward, president and founder, NorthStar Economics.  Dr. Ward completed a thirty-one year career in the University of Wisconsin System in July, 2000.  During that time, David was active as a financial and economic consultant and worked for a number of private sector firms including Kimberly Clark, Honeywell and Lands’ End.  David earned a BBA, MBA and Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

David will discuss:
•    What will the “New normal” look like?
•    How has the economy changed during this recession and what will the recovery potentially look like?
•    What should we expect for economic growth and trends over the next few years nationally and in Wisconsin?

Dick Leinenkugel, secretary, Wisconsin Department of Commerce.  Dick most recently served as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company. He joined the family business in 1987 after serving as an Officer in the United States Marine Corp and working in sports marketing in Chicago.  Dick earned a B.S. in Business Administration and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marquette University.

Dick will discuss:
•    Economic recovery expectations from Commerce’s perspective.
•    What are Commerce’s plans, initiatives and programs for supporting economic growth and jobs as we move out of recession?
