QuickBooks™ Accounting Series - Series of 3; October 7, 12 & 14, 21, 2009

 

QuickBooks™ Getting Started

This program will explain and review basic accounting principles and show you how the software incorporates accounting language and principles.  A basic knowledge of accounting is necessary for you to setup and use QuickBooks™ 2009 effectively. This half-day session and will be a hands-on workshop in a computer lab in which you will learn how to setup a company and review basic accounting principles and concepts necessary to run QuickBooks™.

Topics include:

  • Basic Accounting Concepts and Transactions
  • Setting up a new company

This program is most appropriate for people who want to start using QuickBooks™ 2009 and need an accounting review or haven’t set up a company in QuickBooks™ 2009.

 

QuickBooks™ Essentials

This program is two, half-day sessions and will be a hands-on workshop in a computer lab. In this program you will learn QuickBooks™ basic features. The course is designed with 2 half day sessions so that you will have the opportunity to work on your own company data before coming to the next session.

Topics include:

  • Entering transactions
  • Producing invoices and checks
  • Setting up vendors, customers, jobs and items
  • Reconciling bank and credit card statements
  • Producing financial statements


This program is most appropriate for people who want to start using QuickBooks™ 2009 or have recently started using QuickBooks™ 2009.

Required abilities:  Basic computer and keyboarding skills including using Microsoft Windows™.

 

 

QuickBooks™ Beyond the Essentials

To get the most out of an accounting software package, you need to customize it for your business.  In this half day hands-on session you will learn how to customize QuickBooks™ 2009 forms and reports to fit your unique business. You will also learn how to enter estimates and produce progress invoices and track time and materials.

Topics include:

  • Customizing financial statements, reports and invoices.
  • Estimates and progress invoicing
  • Tracking time and materials
  • Memorizing transactions


Prerequisite:
QuickBooks™ Essentials class or equivalent experience using QuickBooks™ software.

 

Instructors:

Jamie Hanson, President, Badger Business Services, LLC, is an accountant and an Intuit Certified QuickBooks Advanced ProAdvisor.  Owner and manager of her own businesses since 1995, Jamie currently assists a variety of small business owners effectively manage their business finances.

 

Julie Wood works as the Program Coordinator and instructor at the UW Madison Small Business Development Center. Julie is a certified ProAdvisor for QuickBooks. Before coming to the SBDC, Julie was the Director of Operations at Oriel Incorporated and a financial software consultant at SVA consulting. She also started and ran Checks + Balances, Inc.; an accounting consulting business.
