This is your Mind on Media: Staying Sane in a Crazy Culture" - Joanne Cantor
Do you have the itch to check your e-mail on days when your laptop or PDA is inaccessible?
When you’re supposed to be getting work done at your computer, do you find yourself
repeatedly checking online to see the latest news, sports, stock prices, gossip, or political
gaffes? Are you watching more TV but enjoying it less, and finding it more stressful than
diverting? In short, are your communication habits (from the boob tube to the Blackberry)
making you feel more connected and in control—or are they controlling you and stressing
you out? This session puts a new perspective on this problem by bringing in recent information
from neurophysiology on how the mind works to show you why and how the media’s
impact is more intense and disruptive than you think. It also presents ways to use this
knowledge to reduce stress by managing the media in your life.
Joanne Cantor, PhD, is an award-winning University of Wisconsin professor, speaker, researcher, and author and an internationally-recognized expert on the psychology of media and communications. Her entertaining and eye-opening presentations combine psychology, the latest in brain research, amusing anecdotes, and sound practical advice for keeping our own sanity, being more productive with our time, and raising healthy, happy children.

People First, Profits Follow - Rebecca Ryan
NGC’s research of 120 companies in the U.S. and Europe shows that bottom line performance is DIRECTLY tied to how well companies engage their employees in six key drivers. What does that mean? It means that companies like Harley Davidson, Southwest Airlines and Google use surprising techniques to consistently outperform their competitors...NOT by treating their employees like an expense to be minimized, but as an investment to be maximized. In return, they get breakthrough bottom line performance and fiercely loyal employees. What will participants learn from this keynote?
- Why the majority of American workplaces are failing to engage talent, increase
productivity, and improve retention; - Whether their organization is Leading, Advanced, Average or Failing in the six drivers of
employee engagement; - How to design a simple, clear employee engagement plan that is in direct alignment
with their organization’s goals
Rebecca Ryan is an energetic entrepreneur and the founder of Next Generation Consulting.
In 2007, Rebecca became a 2EO, with responsibilities for sales, marketing and positioning.
Ryan summarized her firm’s research in her 2007 book, Live First, Work Second: Getting Inside
the Minds of the Next Generation. Dr. Richard Florida, author of the best-seller, The Rise of
the Creative Class and The Flight of the Creative Class wrote the forward to Ms. Ryan’s book.
He writes, “I am a HUGE Rebecca Ryan fan,” and considers “NGC one of the most reliable
sources for CEO’s, mayors, legislators, economic developers and non-profit leaders who
want to attract and retain the next generation of creative workers.” Rebecca was named the
2004 Entrepreneur of the Year by the U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship
and the 2006 Communicator of the Year by Women in Communication.

What does it mean to be Green? - Robin Pharo
What Does it Mean to be Green? The trouble with green is that there are many different
opinions on what is green and what isn’t. There is a growing movement of people who are
thinking about their finances, managing their money and making choices for their future
in a new way. They are making choices based on whether or not products and services
are earth-friendly, ethically produced, recyclable, and energy-efficient. Are you part of the
quickly growing “going green” movement? Do you look for an organic label on your food,
energy saver sticker on your appliances and ways to lower your “carbon footprint?”
Whether you are committed to the principles of environmental stewardship or if you have
given little thought to your lifestyle’s impact on the environment, this session is designed
to demystify the “green” movement and help you think about how you could make different
choices to lessen your impact on the environment. Using the Ten Key Values of Green,
it will help show you that being more environmentally-friendly is possible even in the midst
of a busy lifestyle and tight finances. This session will give you tips to incorporate into your
home, business and buildings.
Robin Pharo has extensive professional experience in the green building and sustainability marketplace. She holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and also has extensive education from organizations working to improve the environment including the Department of Energy (DOE), the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Robin currently holds a number of high-profile positions within the local green marketplace. She is the founder and president of Healthy Homes, a Green/Healthy Building consultancy firm in Mt. Horeb, Wis. She is also president of the Treysta Group, LLC, a company dedicated to green business development and certification. Finally, she is director of the Green Built Home Program, a program of the Wisconsin Environmental Initiate that supports voluntary Green Building programs for single and multi-family homes.
