These shortened leadership classes were created for those managers who feel they can’t take an entire day for a class but still want to improvement their leadership skills. Scheduled for Friday mornings, it might a great idea to network with others in the class (or bring your team) and head to the Memorial Union for lunch before going back to work or being off for the weekend. This series of 3 half day classes will help you increase your leadership influence with your employees and in your organization.

Leading for Performance & Accountability

You will learn the 7 reasons why performance reviews often create fear, the 10 characteristics of fearless coaching conversations and how to develop the “right” mindset for performance management. This half day class is based on and includes a copy of Fearless Performance Reviews by Jeff and Linda Russell.

The Art of Delegation

This class will focus on developing delegation as a valuable skill that will allow you to enable your employees to willingly take more responsibility for performance and use their expanded authority well. You will learn the what, why of delegations, the conditions necessary for successful delegation and the 5 steps of effective delegation.

Leadership Essentials & Coaching

You will learn the 8 impacts of leadership, the 6 leadership styles (by Daniel Goleman), and when/how to use them. We will discuss the 5 reasons why managers fail, how to use the change formula to help the people you manage adapt to new ideas, and how to coach others through affective dialogue.

Leading for Performance and Accountability and The Art of Delegation

Jeff Russell, (MS, UW-Madison) co-director of Russell Consulting, Inc., specializes in helping organizations achieve their goals by successfully responding to the challenges of continuous change. With a focus on leadership, strategic thinking, leading change, and performance coaching, Jeff has guided organizations as diverse as Fortune 500 firms, social and public sector organizations, and small family businesses toward their goals. Jeff received his Masters Degree in Industrial Relations from the UW-Madison where he serves as an ad hoc faculty member for the Small Business Development Center. Jeff also is an adjunct faculty member for UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, and UW-Colleges. Jeff and his wife and business partner Linda have co-authored eight books. Recent publications include: Managing the Problem Employee, Leading Change Training, Strategic Planning Training, Change Basics, Strategic Planning 101, and, most recently, Ultimate Performance Management, (ASTD Press, 2009). He has more than twenty years experience providing training and development solutions to leaders in business, government, education and nonprofit organizations. Experience includes corporate trainer, executive coach, facilitator, team builder, human resource manager, deckhand, and steel worker.
