SHRM Learning System Certification Course

Increase your chances of passing your SHRM certification exam by attending our upcoming certification prep course.

Looking for help navigating the increased demands on HR professionals? Become the most qualified and valuable HR professional you can be with SHRM certification.

The SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP®) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP®) are the only behavioral competency-based HR certifications. This means you’ll have the answers AND know what to do on the job.

    • Boost your credibility: 58% of managers of SHRM-certified credential holders look to them for their enhanced efficiency and tendency toward leadership.
    • Boost your career: Of SHRM-certified professionals who were promoted, 63% report that their credential was a key factor.
    • Boost your salary: HR professionals who pass the SHRM certification exam report earning salaries 7%-9% higher than peers who do not.

The SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certifications are built upon the SHRM BASK, which is based on the input of some of the best minds in the HR profession to define eight behavioral competencies and 15 functional areas that every HR professional should know. This course is offered in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest HR membership organization devoted to human resource management.

The Small Business Development Center at UW Madison is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP®.

"[I chose to take the course because] I learn better with an instructor than just reading a book. I like that the instructors were approachable, accommodating and knowledgeable. They put in a lot of effort, and I really appreciate all their hard work. [I also] liked [having] recordings of each class... [having this available] helps me if I didn't understand the first time in class to go back and understand the content."

Nick Faber, HR Business Partner UW-Madison, 2024 SHRM Certification Preparation course participant

[This course gave me] a better understanding of the material - and Judy's energy is wonderful!

—HR Generalist, Hartung Brothers, Inc.

Tomás is a terrific instructor who cares about each student.

Stephanie Pannkuk, HR , Skinner Transfer Corp, Spring 2023 Participant

[It was] great to meet some of the people in person; [the in-person sessions] felt like a good way to start and end the class - it bookends and made it more "real."

I liked the structure and tips given during the class. Seeing the material in multiple forms (reading, presentations, quizzes) helped solidify learning, and [I liked] having the ability to discuss to digest the information. Judy alwasy gave tips and tricks and moved through content effectively.

Recruiter, Trek, 2023 [hybrid class] participant

I appreciated the conversation and questions surrounding concerns. [The class was] helpful and well organized; I do better with instruction vs. self-study, [and I appreciated] the ability to ask questions and engage with others. Knowing relevant information to study and knowing the testing format [helped prepare me].

RDH & Director of HR & Compliance, Spring 2023 participant [hybrid format]

This is a great class to prepare yourself for this exam. The community of the program and hearing others' questions helped prepare me. It felt like the whole class was in it together every class, which helped me stay motivated.

All instructors are amazing and knowledgeable and care about your progress. Judy is a SHRM wizard and was so helpful - thank you, Judy!

Cameron Theisen, UW-Madison Division of Recreation & Wellbeing, Spring 2023 participant [hybrid course]

I did a self-study series and failed my first self-study exam. [When taking this class,] the instructors were great - knowledgeable and engaged as questions came up.

Spring 2023 participant

This course helped me navigate the SHRM reading materials, kept me accountable each week. and was very well laid out. The quizzes, tips, and examples helped me think about the way questions are asked [on the exam]. The instructors were so knowledgeable and provided real life context to the reading. I already find myself referencing class lessons in my everyday work!

Amanda Edl, Sr. HR operations coordinator. Exact Sciences, Fall 2022 participant

I liked the flexibility of the program, the support, and availability of instructors for questions.

Ashley Cohen, HR Generalist, LeadCar Systems, Inc.

[This class was] very interactive and participatory. Gave me good ideas about what content is important to focus on and explanation on rationale for reasoning of answers, etc.

2023 SHRM Participant

Getting insight from HR professionals’ experiences with real-world examples was helpful to piece concepts together. It was nice to kick off class meeting everyone in person; [I] felt more comfortable and less nervous [after] meeting in person the 1st day. But [it was also] nice to be hybrid at home majority of the time due to work schedules.

Marissa Levan, Springs Window Fashions, 2023 Participant

“Judy was amazing and helpful to everyone.  Very engaging and informative. Thank you!”

SHRM 2021 Online Participant

"I’m very pleased with Judy’s instruction! She’s excellent at giving tips to help with recall and throwing in past information to keep it fresh in our thoughts. She’s very knowledgeable and encouraged and supportive! I am SO GLAD I signed up for the class and didn’t try to go it alone as I’m certain I wouldn’t be learning as much as quickly as I am with her help and the input of the other classmates!"

Fall 2020 online participant

"Thank you, thank you for all you have done for me and the HR profession."

Previous SHRM Certification Student

"Thank you so much for the expert instruction and class organization! I am so glad that I took the class rather than just doing independent study - several times during the exam (which I thought was very difficult) I almost felt like I had Judy whispering in my ear!"
